To be Raw or Not to be Raw!

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

To be Raw, or not to be Raw. That is the question. What am I talking about?  I am talking about eating Raw foods.  Yes, eating uncooked fruits and vegetables.  (Some people eat raw beef, but I am so not ready for that yet.)  Eating Raw has so many fantastic health benefits.  People have even been cured of some very bad illness by changing their eating habits and eating raw.  How, you ask?  Simple at first.  Eat all your fruits and vegetables raw.  You don’t have to be fancy in the beginning.   I am just getting my feet wet in this area.  I generally eat my stuff raw.  Very seldom do I cook my veggies.  I love salads and so does the rest of my family.  We all seem to not be able to agree on any cooked veg so this is how I have solved this.

I went to a seminar last night and saw a great move called SuperCharge Me.  This movie was made similarly to SuperSize me with the idea of eating a certain way for 30 days.  The guy in SuperSize me ate 30 days of McDonald’s and the lady in SuperCharge Me ate 30 days Raw.  She lost 16 pounds and felt fantastic.  Both movies are great as they offer stuff that we can all relate to and appreciate.  Supercharge Me was especially great as it talked about healthy living in all areas: Mind, Body and Spirit!  That is a perfect recipe!!! I encourage you if you get the opportunity to check out SuperCharge Me.  You can google it and find info about it.

There are tons of websites about Raw food and the Raw Food diet.  You don’t have to do things 100% to experience the benefits.  Just do better today than you did yesterday and you will see results.

I encourage you to check it out.  For nothing more than to expose yourself to new ideas!!

 Blessings!!

Move A Little

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Get Moving!  Take a walk, lift some light weights, do some squats with a big exercise ball.  I am telling you will feel so much better.  Not only that, you will easily speed up your metabolism and see results soon!

Here is my typical eating day when I am doing the “right” thing.  I eat 1 egg, 1 slice of toast and some celery for breakfast.  For the snack, I eat some celery, humus and pita and a couple pieces of grilled chicken strips.  Lunch, I eat grilled chicken strips on top of a big salad with humus and pita. The next snack is the same as the first snack and then dinner is usually like steak and rice with a salad, or chicken and a potato and a salad, or something like that.  If I am up late, I may eat another egg with some cereal and celery or a salad.  Yes, I use a little butter on my toast, regular salad dressing and I eat what I want.  I don’t however eat any sugar or junk Monday through Saturday.  But, on Sunday, I eat whatever I want.  It is my YUMMY day.  The day I look forward to so that I can all the things I wanted during the week.  I found that I usually don’t go overboard so it works out.

I have on the right side of this site a link to Amazon where you can check out some books and health and fitness stuff like the exercise balls.  These balls are must haves.  I love my exercise ball!!  You can do squats, crunches and other great exercises without back strain.  Please check it out.

Well, that is all for now!

Hugs and Blessings,

Matthew chapter 7 Rocks!  Why you ask?  Well, read it now if you can then come back here and read the rest of this.  A great source for bible stuff is www.biblegateway.com.  Here you can look up passages in many translations right at your computer.  Really cool!

Now that you have read this, let’s chat about it!   I am focusing on Matthew 7:1-5;12. These verses contain some of the most widely used bible verses.  I believe that if we understand them, and apply them, we won’t be able to stop bringing blessings to others.  How cool is that?  Don’t you want to be a blessing to others?  You know what happens when you bring blessings to others?  Let’s find out.

I love the translation from The Message.  You can read that on the bible gateway site.  It is just super easy to understand.

Vs.1-5 “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.”

Don’t you remember your mom and dad saying to you, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all?  Ever wonder where they got it from???  When we sit there and pick on others, what purpose are we fulfilling?  Aren’t we insecure in those same areas that we are pointing out?  Does pointing fingers at someone else make us feel better?  Perhaps.

How about the golden rule?   Know where that comes from?  Right here in Matthew 7, vs.12!  The NIV version states, “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.”  Many of you say, “do unto others as you would have done unto you!”  Either way it is so cool.  You see, if we treated people the way that we wanted to be treated, then I truly believe our lives would be less complicated.  If we always thought about the other person ahead of ourselves, I believe life would be more joyful.

So my question to you earlier, you know - what happens when you bring blessings to other people’s lives?  The answer … You are blessed too!  There is something magical that happens when we treat someone special.  When we go out of our way to say hi, smile, open a door, make a meal for someone struggling, serve in a shelter or other ministry,  - not only is the receiver blessed and feeling special, the blessor is full of joy too.  It is a fact.  If you don’t believe me, try it.  I challenge you because when you bring joy you receive joy!  Pure and simple.  In the same breath, if you bring pain, you will ultimately feel pain.  It is truth.

So, what do you want bring, joy or pain?

When you change your focus, from completely selfish living, to less selfish living, wow!  You will see a difference.  Baby steps.  God’s Word is amazing.  Most everything we know comes from the bible.  People have just put there own spin on it.  Please keep checking it out!  I know that your life will be so much for joyful.  You deserve it - you are God’s baby and He loves you -He loves you where you are right now!

Go and Be a Blessing!!

Too Cute to be Chubby

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Great Title, right?  We all want to look and feel good but getting that way and staying that way is the problem.  I am sure none of us truly desire to be chubby!

I struggle with weight.  I am not grossly obese however I am over weight.  It has ALWAYS been a struggle.  Sometimes I look at people, (people in my own family) and wonder why they can eat anything they want and not gain a pound.  Heck, they lose pounds.  My husband was one of those.  He could eat a pound of spaghetti at midnight and be 5 pounds lighter the next day!  I, on the other hand, ate with him at midnight, and I would gain what he lost.  Lucky me!   It feels so bad, especially when you LOVE to eat.  I love to eat.  I like good for me things and bad for me things.  I don’t however like to exercise.  Can you relate to any of this?????

Here is what I learned this past year.  I learned that if I eat 5 or 6 times a day, cut out sugar, and exercise just a little, I will be healthier and be the weight I desire.  However, this, as simple as it seems, is still challenging. I am mom of 3 kids and homeschool them -  Don’t you think I am challenged enough?  Well, I guess I am not.  I ask WHY?

Because, that’s why. (my 2 year old is saying that now)  I was made this way, pure and simple.  I was made to have a body that absorbed everything.  I have a body that has a slower metabolism (yes, I have thyroid disease under control with meds and diet), BUT  I am just the way that God intended me to be!  The thing is, I need to work harder to be healthy and that is all.  I am not being punished.  I am not a victim (even though a couple time of month I believe that I am)! I am just who I am and the sooner I own that, the better I will be.

I lost 16 pounds last year.  I did as I mentioned above.  It was wonderful.  I felt great about myself.  I was so proud of myself.  And then, well….  I tried to see if I didn’t have to exercise a little everyday.  I tried to see if I could just eat 3 times a day.  You know what happened?  I gained weight again.  I am not feeling so great about myself right now, but I know that I can do it again.  So without further adieu…

I am taking it on again!  Want to journey with me????

Let’s do this for ourselves and our families!  We deserve to be healthy and cute, and they deserve to have us healthy both physically and emotionally.

I will blog here about what I am doing and how it is going.  I will include what I  eat and some exercises that I do to give you some ideas.

I want to bring blessings into people’s lives and the only way I  do that  is to be healthy - physically, mentally and spiritually!

I challenge you to take this journey with me!  Can’t wait to hear your progress!

Go and Be a Blessing!!

Count Your Blessings

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Count your Blessings!!  Don’t you hate when people say that?  I did, especially when it seemed like the I didn’t have any.  The truth is, I had bunches but just couldn’t see them. We all do!  I know it may not seem that way, but it is true.

Everyday is full of blessings, we just don’t always see them.  Of course that is the point of this blog - to help all of us ( me included) to realize our blessings in the everyday and count them one by one.

A cool thing to do (if you don’t already do it) is to journal.  I know for some it will be a struggle and for others it will be fun so I encourage you and challenge you to journal a little bit everyday.  You will see your many blessings unfold before your eyes.

How?  Take just 5 minutes everyday, perhaps in the morning (if you are a morning person) or in the evening (if you are night person like me!) to write your thoughts of the day.  Try not to just state the facts in your daily recap.  Try to include your feelings about the day, even the little things.  Your trip to the grocery store does count!!!  If you stayed home all day sick or home with your kids, or went to work at the white house- realize that it all counts!  There are blessings in every person’s day!

I am excited to journey with you. Realizing your blessings in the everyday is so important and so rewarding and so incredibly wonderful!

Now, go and be a blessing!!!!
